A few links to other interesting space-related web sites

(personal opinion, suggestions wellcome, please inform when link no longer exists)

http://msia02.msi.se/~lindsey/spaceLinks.html

Best collection of space-related links I have seen so far. Incl. amateur groups, hybrids etc. (thanks to Dr. Ralf Bülow, Berlin !)

http://www.viaweb.com

A link to the NASA Kennedy Space Center Space Shop. Supposedly carries everything from T-shirt to space suit.

http://www.kayer-threde.de/vrs/werbungimweltraum.htm

Well, why not. Advertising in space is for those who really want to reach far. Seems the target group must be astronauts who somehow stayed up there .....

http://www.newspace.com/news/journal/schnitt/970126.html

! This is the direct link to Arthur Schnitt (in SPACE Journal). Arthur Schnitt is the earliest protagonist of the so-called"Big Dumb Booster". The story begins in 1959 and parts read like a crime story. Schnitt is a true space pioneer, but so far wasn't too lucky with his ideas .....

http://www.xprize.com

The X-Preis. 10.000.000,- $ for a private person or organisation which is first to reach 100 altitude with a self-assembled rocket and a 3 man crew.

http://www.smad.com

! Home page of Microcosm, Inc. This company in California pursues a low-cost rocket concept on a LOX/Kerosine basis. Motors are built in composites (except for the injector plate). In test runs, they stood for 3 min already. A single motor (with several tons of thrust) is quoted for $ 5000. Higher levels of power are achieved by bundeling several identical stages. Looks like they will be successful. I find their site interesting!

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/basics

Introduction to rocketry - NASA Style.

http://www.millennial.org

The Millenial Organisation was founded by Marshall T. Savage, who also wrote a book (The Millenial Project). The society pursues no lesser goal than setteling the galaxy. They estimate a time frame of a thousand years (finally some folks who really think far ahead - I'll have to have myself put on ice to see what comes out of this). Settelment is to take place in 8 easy steps, beginning with artificial island states in the oceans, then bases on Moon and Mars, Asteroids etc. It sounds a bit crazy, but I must say that I found the book a good read even though it has some weird ideas and a few statements with regard to rocketry are simply wrong. All in all, Savage's arguments are well-thought-through and some are quite clever (in fact, we present some here on our pages).

http://www.spacelaunch.org

This is another private organisation which wants to build a space access capability (first, sattellites to make money, then people). I followed them through a year of building their web page, but to date no hardware has been built.

http://www.planetary.org

! The Planetary Organisation in Pasadena, CA. was founded by the late Carl Sagan. Its goals are the promotion of research projects of the solar system as well as the search for extraterrestrial intellegence (one of Sagan's favorite topics - CONTACT) via radioastronomical methods (SETI, META, BETA). The Society has more than 100.000 members all over the world which makes it the biggest private organisation promoting space related topics. It publishes the bi-monthly Planetary Report, which presents space subjects distinctly different from NASA. Membership incl. the Report are $ 35 per annum - well worth it!

Sub-Page about SETI = Search For Extraterrestrial Life

http://www.smad.com/ds

The Discount Astronautical Bookstore. Books about special space-related topics. Lots of engineering titles, but some are for the general audience.

http://www.astronautical.org/fullindex.html

The American Astronautical Society. Includes a list of publications.

http://www.nss.org

The American National Space Society - the pendant to the Britishen Interplanetary Society.

http://www.spacefuture.com

This site deals with our future in space.

http://www.buzzaldrin.com

Buzz Aldrin was an Apollo 11 astronaut and second man on the Moon, as most of you will remember. Now he has his own internet site, where you can order his latest book ....

http://www.celestis.com

Celestis Memorial Service - name is programm. Have your ashes put to final rest in space - but be ready to pay apprx. $ 5.000 for 10 g. So start saveing your nickels and dimes now!

http://www.newspace.com/news/ideas/home.htm

An international idea forum incl some alternative ideas about space research, prospecting, settelment etc. incl. a discussion forum. Every letter will be published.

http://www.c-com.net/~advent

Advent Launch Services

http://www.autobahn.mb.ca/~gryphon/pyro.html

This page describes pyrotechnical mixtures of all sorts and for all purposes. Incl. a summary of all solid rocket fuels. Definitely something for the "home brewer".

http://www.gbnet.net/orgs/aspire/asphome.html

A group in Birmingham, UK, launching solid rockets. They put the camera pictures live into the internet.

http://www.dragonfire.co.uk

An organisation in Wales, UK, which plans to fly a hybrid to 100 km altitude. Unfortunately, not much of the technology is ready. The control center is in a pub ....

http://www.skypub.com

A collection of astronomical topics in the web. Has one very interesting sub link:

http://www.skypub.com/benson/prize.html

about the commercial utilization of asteroids. Specifically, the author seeks money and support for a so-called capture project.

http://solar.rtd.utk.edu/~mwade/spaceflt.htm

! Mark Wade's Encyclopedia Astronautica. Highly reccomentded and highly interesting collection of historical rocket data. Incl. projcets that were never built, for ex. Saturn V follow-up project studies, Russian Moon landing concepts, a Gemini-based Moon landing project etc. Includes data of all Russian launchers.
